Jaffna Kings clinched their third Lanka Premier League (LPL) title on Sunday as they beat Galle Marvels by 9 wickets in the final of the tournament. South Africam Rilee Rossouw played a match-winning 106-run knock to ensure that the Kings clinched the cup in what was a high-octane battle.
Jaffna skipper Asalanka credited Rossouw for the side’s epic performance in the final and noted that it was all about professional and individual performance for the team.
Jaffna Kings win LPL 2024
The Galle Marvels had set a 185-run targrt after batting first in the LPL 2024 final. An 82-run knock from Bhanuka Rajapaksa and a handy 47-run cameo from Tim Seifert guided the team to a commendable 184-run total at the end of 20 overs.
In reply, the Jaffna Kings made the run-chase look easy, with Kusal Mendis and Rossouw sealing the dea with their match-wiinning knocks. after losing opener Pathum Nissanka for a golden duck, the duo steadied the ship for the side and fought their way towards victory.
The South African remained unbeaten on 106 off just 53 deliveries, with his knock studded seven sixes and nine fours. His partner, Mendis, had eight boundaries and two sixes to his name. No Galle bowler found success apart from Dwaine Pretorius who managed to get a wicket in his first over. Six other bowlers, including Theekshana and Udana, failed to provide any breakthroughs for the side.
