Jadeja-Ashwin-Noor vs Santner-Mujeeb-Karn: Which spin attack will rule Chepauk?

CSK’s experienced spin trio faces MI’s mystery attack in a high-stakes IPL 2025 clash at Chepauk. Who will dominate IPL's El Clasico?

One of the biggest matches of IPL 2025 will be played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk Stadium, in Chennai. It’s going to be an exciting contest because both teams have a fierce rivalry, and they are the most successful teams of the IPL so far. Both have 5 titles and will be aiming for their 6th title this year, so every match is important for both teams.

Chennai is known as the home of spin, so it’s going to be crucial for the teams to have a strong spin attack. The outcome of the match depends on how the spinners play a big part on this pitch. While Chennai Super Kings are coming with some experienced names under their belt, Mumbai Indians are looking forward to banking on some of the underrated names in Chennai.

The ultimate trio in Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are coming with an ultimate trio of Noor Ahmad, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja. Ravindra and Ashwin will be bowling on the same track after a long time. It will be exciting to see how the Chepauk track will be for Noor Ahmad because he is with Chennai Super Kings for the first time. Ravindra Jadeja will, of course, be looking to capitalise on the home pitch.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have a lot of experience playing over the years. Talking about the IPL, Ashwin has played 49 matches and taken 57 wickets with a decent economy of 6.21. On the other hand, Jadeja has also shown excellent performance as a spinner. In 44 innings, he has taken 34 wickets with an economy of 6.75, which is good. Noor Ahmad, while playing for Gujarat Titans, has only played one match in Chennai so far. In that match, he was able to take one wicket and gave 29 runs with an economy of 7.25.

Overall, it looks like a power-packed show from Chennai Super Kings because they have experienced players like Ravichandran Ashwin. Now they have Noor Ahmad, the 20-year-old who can turn the ball both ways with quick speed and could make a difference.

Mumbai Indians to rely on Santner mostly

Mumbai Indians will rely on Mitchell Santner. They also have Karn Sharma and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Mumbai Indians will be using an overseas spinner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who will be very important for the team. Speaking of his experience in Chennai, he has played only one match and took two wickets while giving away 29 runs. Mujeeb is a talented Afghan spinner who is often described as a mystery spinner. Sometimes he bowls right-arm off-spin, which could be useful.

Santner has been part of Chennai Super Kings for a long time. Although he has only played three matches and taken 3 wickets, he has a decent economy of 6.

Karn Sharma comes in as a leg-spin bowling option who has contributed a lot to the team. He has experience playing for different franchises and has also played for Chennai Super Kings in the past. He can contribute as a specialist spinner. Speaking about his record in Chennai, he has played three matches and has taken one wicket, which is a weak link given his economy of 8.30 in Chennai.

Chennai to take advantage

Chennai has a mix of both youth and experienced players, as well as some of the finest spinners in the country, and could have an advantage over Mumbai Indians when it comes to spin. While Mumbai’s spinners are good with their bowling variations, Karn Sharma’s record in Chennai shows that he had a hard time at the ground, which could decrease the chances of Mumbai Indians relying on him.

Although it’s difficult to predict any team’s performance given the journey they go through and the changes they make in their bowling, but, after looking at the variation in spin options and their records, Chennai seems to have more of an advantage in spin than Mumbai Indians in the El Clasico today.
