Rohit Sharma on Wednesday revealed that he had played alongside Sarfaraz Khan’s father in Mumbai’s domestic cricket. Perhaps it was a form of poetic justice that Sarfaraz Khan went on to make his debut in the IND vs ENG series. The Indian captain claimed that Sarfaraz Khan’s Test cap belonged to his father more than it belonged to him and said he was happy to see so many youngsters making their debuts in the IND vs ENG series.
India, despite missing quite a few key players, demolished visitors England in the 5 match series to win 4-1. Youngsters played a crucial role in the series win, with players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan and Akash Deep rising at the right time to take India home.
Rohit Sharma, who has been praised by former cricketers and cricket lovers alike for leading this young Indian team so well, heaped praises on the youngsters in an interview on Team Ro on Instagram.
In the heart-to-heart chat, Rohit revealed that he had known Sarfaraz Khan’s father as a junior when he played with him in the Kanga League.

“I felt very good seeing so many youngsters making their debut in the IND vs ENG Test series. I’ve actually played with Sarfaraz Khan’s father in the Kanga League. I was a junior back then. His father was an aggressive left-handed batter and he made quite a name for himself in Mumbai’s domestic circuit. The effort that Sarfaraz’s father put in behind him was appreciable. So it was important to tell him that the Test cap belonged to him more than it belonged to his son,” Rohit said.
