Virat Kohli’s brilliant century for Royal Challengers Bangalore stole the show as the former RCB captain guided his team to a commanding eight-wicket victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, rekindling their chances of qualifying for the Indian Premier League 2023 Play-Offs. When asked, “What is the secret of the highly successful Virat-Faf pair?” during the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli said, “I think it’s the tattoos,” with a goofy smile on his face. Kohli also compared the partnership between him and du Plessis to his and former RCB batter AB de Villiers. ” We almost have 900 runs together this season. Very similar how I used to feel with AB and me batting together. Just an understanding of where the game is going and what needs to be done. Having an experienced guy who’s captained at the international level – it’s been a beautiful transition for us coming together for RCB at the top and making an impact,” Kohli said.
With a barrage of early boundaries, Kohli opened the innings and immediately established the tone for an extraordinary performance. He created a batting performance that enthralled the Hyderabad audience by using textbook strokes.
The 34-year-old launched an explosive display, demonstrating a mastery in chasing, defying previous criticism of his strategy. His flick shot stood out as a tribute to his incredible power, rocketing 103 metres for six.
By the 12th over, du Plessis and Kohli had each reached their respective half-centuries, displaying tremendous batting skill. The duo used their abilities and expertise to overcome the challenge despite the little turn that was available for the SRH spinners.
Kohli’s sixth IPL century, putting him on level with Chris Gayle, gave the innings the ideal closing touch as RCB’s triumph became inevitable. His first IPL century since 2019 was this amazing achievement, making the milestone all the more significant.
