“It’s not important..” Harbhajan Singh lays a simple path for Rohit Sharma & co to qualify for WTC Final

Team India have four Tests matches remaining - all against Australia - in their march to the WTC Final.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has talked about India’s chances to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. He has laid down a simple but surely a testing path for India to make it a three out of three final appearances. India, as we all know, qualified for the 2019 and 2023 WTC Finals but ended up losing both times.

Team India endured a crushing 0-3 Test series defeat to New Zealand a few weeks back. That has put India’s WTC chances in jeopardy. Now, the Rohit Sharma-led side is highly dependent on their results in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Incredibly, Harbhajan Singh pointed out that if India manage to repeat their Perth heroics in the next game, we could qualify for the WTC Final.

What did Harbhajan Singh say about WTC Final?

If they (India) win another game, I think India will definitely go into the WTC (final) but it’s not important to reach there, it’s important to win we will reach there,” Harbhajan Singh told news agency PTI. Bhajji hinted that India’s plan should be simple. Win the next BGT Test in Adelaide and then they’ll “definitely” reach the WTC Final, scheduled to happen on June 11-15 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Currently, India at the top of the WTC 2023-25 table. They have a total of 61.11 points percentage, with 9 wins in 15 games. Meanwhile, South Africa closed the game yesterday after their win over Sri Lanka in Durban.

Team India have a massive task at hand. They need to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with at least a margin of 4-0, in order to stay away from depending on other teams’ results.
