Indian head coach Rahul Dravid on Saturday shared his thoughts on BCCI’s new incentive scheme for Test cricket. Dravid said more than an incentive, the latest step taken by BCCI is a reward to recognise the hard work behind playing the gruelling format. Dravid, who has been a vocal supporter of the game’s longest format, said he hoped money would not be an incentive for youngsters to play Test cricket.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Saturday took to X (previously Twitter) to announce the new incentive scheme planned by BCCI in an effort to make Test cricket more attractive for the youngsters. Given that Indian players like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan declined to play domestic cricket, the incentive is perceived as an attempt by the Indian Cricket Board to draw players back to the game’s traditional format.
In the scheme, players who play or are a part of more than 50% Tests in a season will be rewarded with a massive sum which will depend on the amount of games the cricketer is a part of.
Dravid was asked about the scheme after India’s victory against England in the IND vs ENG 5th Test.

“I hope money is not an incentive to play Test cricket. It is just a recognition that it’s a tough and hard format. You go through a lot. We don’t celebrate 100 T20Is like we do 100 Tests right? It’s not an incentive, it’s a reward,” Dravid said.
