‘It’s just on field…’ Gautam Gambhir shuns claims on agenda against Virat Kohli

Gambhir and Virat had a tussle in the IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants.

Former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir has put the rumours of him having a bias or agenda against Virat Kohli to bed. During a segment on Star Sports, the opener was asked, ‘Against which bowler Virat Kohli completed his 50th ODI century? To everyone’s shock, not only did Gambhir know the answer, but he also snubbed those who wished to pit the two World Cup winners against each other.

For the unaware, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have had an on-field tussle twice. Both instances happened in the IPL, once as players in 2013 and then a decade later, in 2023, as a player and coach of their respective sides.

Gambhir answered the question perfectly, remembering that it was Lockie Ferguson against whom Kohli scored his 50th century. However, the former India opener also added a cheeky jibe after it, saying, “Show this clip again and again so that everyone remembers it. I have no ill will against him; the issues we’ve had are only on the field.”.

Virat Kohli & Gautam Gambhir fight in the IPL 2023

The verbal fight between the two Indian greats occurred in the last edition of last year’s IPL. The fight originally started when Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq got into a fight during the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Lucknow Super Giants match.

Things got heated after Naveen refused to shake Virat’s hand. Soon after, several players from both sides got involved. However, Kohli’s old foe, Gambhir, who was LSG’s coach at the time, stepped in to stop his players from interacting with Kohli. That’s when the fight broke out between the two.
