While there may be a few doubts as to who would make India’s squad for the Champions Trophy, one has become clear, that under-fire Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the tournament. Rohit’s role as the leader, and it’s confirmation only became clear when the BCCI announced, that he will sit in the press conference after the squad announcement with Ajit Agarkar on Jan 18.
Rohit Sharma to Stay India Captain
The BCCI will name the ODI squads for IND vs ENG as well on Saturday. Meanwhile, India’s campaign in the Champions Trophy will begin on Feb 20 against Bangladesh. Coming back to Rohit Sharma, a lot was said about his future in the Indian team, after he dropped himself from the IND vs AUS series, and also his poor run of form.
In the three Tests played there, he only scored 31 runs at an average of 6 only. In the IND vs NZ series preceding that, he only scored 91 at an average of 15. But then his captaincy credentials cannot be questioned in the white-ball formats. In the T20 World Cup 2024, he led India to the second title, after their first one in 2007.
Virat Kohli Injured?
Team India might have a new headache now. A new report has suggested that Virat Kohli might have suffered a neck sprain during the last IND vs AUS Test in Sydney. While there is no confirmation of this.. the extent of his injury is not known. There are also fitness concerns over Jasprit Bumrah.
The selection panel also faces a problem of plenty for now. They would have to take a call on the spinners — who to pick among Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.
