Ishan Kishan’s absence from fifth consecutive Ranji Trophy match leaves questions unanswered

Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan had last played a competitive match in November 2023 -- India vs Australia in Guwahati.

India wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan’s prolonged absence from the Ranji Trophy has raised many questions. Currently, the fifth round of the tournament is going on, with Kishan missing all of them, when he was expected to play for Jharkhand.

It was during the South Africa series that Kishan had walked out of the Indian team voluntarily, citing mental fatigue as the reason. But since then, no one really knows about his timeline to return.

Earlier, head coach Rahul Dravid had said, “Ishan Kishan was not available for selection. Ishan requested for a break, which we agreed in South Africa. We supported it. He has not yet made himself available. I don’t think he has made himself available as yet. When he is available, he will play domestic cricket and make himself available for selection.”

But as per PTI, even the Jharkhand association is not aware about his return. “No, Ishan hasn’t contacted us or told us anything about his availability. Whenever he tells us, he will walk into the playing XI,” secretary Chakraborty told PTI.

What is even more puzzling is, Ishan has been quite active on social media. Just recently, he posted a video where he could be seen sweating it out in the gym.
