Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan commenced his comeback journey with a century in Jharkhand’s first match of the Buchi Babu Invitation Tournament. Having been sidelined ever since the start of 2024, the swashbuckling southpaw wasted no time to show the selectors his intent. Kishan is playing his first domestic game of the year after refusing to participate in the Ranji Trophy which costed him his BCCI Central Contract.
Ishan Kishan slams ton in Buchi Babu Tournament
Ishan Kishan slammed 114 runs off 107 deliveries, including five fours and ten sixes. The captain’s knock helped Jharkhand post a 289-run 1st innings total in response to Madhya Pradesh’s 225. The match also marked Kishan’s first red-ball contest since his debut for India against West Indies in 2023.
Kishan is also expected to play the upcoming Ranji Trophy season as well, marking his full-fledged return to first-class cricket. He last played his first-class game in 2022 following which he stayed away from Ranji Trophy in 2023.
In 2024, he refused to participate in domestic cricket, leading to a snub from the BCCI Central Contract list and the Indian team across formats.
Earlier, reports stated that the selectors wanted Ishan Kishan to resume playing the red-ball format in domestic cricket in order to consider him as a contender for a spot in the Indian team. However, he faces a steep challenge on making his comeback to the Indian side, considering the cut-throat comptetition in place.
