Ishan Kishan’s disappearing act has raised many eyebrows and has led to multiple speculations. Former India opener Aakash Chopra joins the bandwagon in questioning the wicketkeeper’s hiatus. Kishan, who requested a break from IND vs SA series, has not shown up for either Ranji Trophy or has communicated with the selectors yet.
Chopra joins critics’ bandwagon bashing Ishan Kishan
In his latest video on his YouTube channel, Chopra defends head coach Rahul Dravid’s view on Kishan playing cricket first in order to return to the national side. He says that the wicketkeeper’s absence would have been acceptable if it came in the period of June-July. He cites the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 to remark that Kishan should have played to show his availability.
“What Rahul has said is absolutely correct. Rahul Dravid has said that he should make available first and secondly, he needs to play some cricket, as he can’t be picked for India if he is not playing any cricket. If it had been the period of June-July, it would have been acceptable.”
“However, the Ranji Trophy is happening at the moment, so if first-class cricket is happening, he needs to play there to show his availability. In fact, he has not even picked up the phone and told anyone that he is available,” the former India opener added.
It is also revealed that Kishan has been in Baroda for the last two weeks, and has been training at the Kiran More Academy. There he is putting in the hard yards with Hardik and Krunal Pandya.
