Is Washington Sundar perfect replacement for Ravindra Jadeja? All-rounder resurrects India career with IND vs ZIM show

All-rounder Washington Sundar has pitched himself as the apt replacement for Jadeja after his performance in IND vs ZIM series

India cricket team all-rounder Washington Sundar has established himself as the frontrunner for veteran Ravindra Jadeja’s position in the side’s T20I setup after an impressive series against Zimbabwe.

Jadeja hung up his boots in the shortest format of the game following India’s historic T20 World Cup win in June. With the southpaw out of the way, the Tamil Nadu star has propelled himself to the front of the line for being the apt all-rounder that India need in T20Is.

Washington Sundar makes case for replacing Jadeja in T20Is

After being in and out of the Indian team over the past few years, Sundar got a chance to feature in all five T20Is against Zimbabwe. The all-rounder bagged eight wickets from five games, with a best spell of 3/15. With the bat, however, he managed to score only 28 runs, given that he only batted on two occasions.

Sundar is an apt fit as Jadeja’s replacement in the shortest format of the game, given that he his best suited to pair up with Axar Patel. With 135 runs to his name from 48 T20Is, Sundar will be looking to make a mark with the bat as well as the avenue for more batting opportunities opens up.

In T20s alone, Sundar has 107 wickets and 1237 runs to his name, making him a formidable force to be reckoned with. With new head coach Gautam Gambhir taking over the reins of the team, the all-rounder is expected to be a part of India’s side for the shortest format of the game, given his young age and talent. Additionally, he has the ability to fill in the shoes of Jadeja, given that he can fire with both bat and ball when required.
