Is team India better or Pakistan? Misbah-Ul-Haq doesn’t give a clear answer

Pakistan has only beaten India once in World Cups, that too in 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai, by 10 wickets.

Team India and Pakistan are set for yet another epic clash this T20 World Cup. The arch-rivals will be up against each other in New York on June 9, in front of a packed crowd. India has just lost against Pakistan only once in World Cups till date, but if one was to see the overall record, Pakistan is ahead. Settling the debate, former Pakistan skipper said on Star Sports Press Room, “This is something, that everyone is trying to find an answer for.”

“If we see till 2003, the Pakistan team was a star-studded one, and were a force to reckon with throughout the 90’s. But then, post that, credit to India, their cricket has developed a lot. Especially in the fast-bowling department, India has improved greatly.

“Look at the Indian teams from the 2011 World Cup, then in 2015, 2019 and last year as well..They were all brilliant teams. Ya, but if one was to see the overall records, Pakistan has a better record still, at least in the T20Is. In ODIs and Tests, the neighbours have fared better.

In 59 Tests, India has won only 9 while the Pakistanis have won 12. In ODIs, out of 135 played, Pakistan has won 73 while India has 57. In T20Is, India is better winning eight, while the opposition has three to their name.

Misbah-Ul-Haq Draws Black Magic Inference

Talking about the T20 World Cup 2007, Misbah recalled the debacle in the first match India faced Pakistan. There, despite needing only one from two deliveries, they lost the match after a bowl out. “As far as the World Cups are concerned, Pakistan has just beaten India only once, that too in Dubai, where they chased down the target.

“If I am to talk about the 2007 matches, on both occasions, I gave it my all. I wanted to break the streak, but..in the first match we needed 49 runs in 14 balls, and we scored most of them. But then in the end when one was needed off 2 deliveries, we couldn’t do that. That made me think that black magic exists.”
