Sunrisers Hyderabad’s young gun, Abhishek Sharma, has taken the IPL 2024 by storm. His blazing form has not only been crucial for his team but has also ignited the hope of a possible call-up to the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Abhishek’s numbers speak for themselves. In just the initial matches of the tournament, he has amassed a total of 161 runs at an impressive average of 40.25. But it’s his strike rate that truly sets him apart. A staggering 226.19 (at the time of writing) places him at the top of the leaderboard amongst all batsmen who have faced over 50 deliveries. This aggressive batting style is exactly what T20 cricket demands, and Sharma is certainly delivering.
Sharma’s talent has been known for a while now. Since 2022, the southpaw has racked up 813 IPL runs at a strike rate of around 150, which is better than the likes of David Warner, Faf du Plessis, Hardik Pandya and Aiden Markram. His IPL 2024 performance, however, is a timely reminder of his abilities and his potential to be a valuable asset for India in the upcoming World Cup.
