Is Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm seamer that Team India was searching for? Gambhir answers

Arshdeep's impactful performances have not only added depth to the Indian bowling lineup but also showcased the promising talent emerging in the fast-bowling department.

In the recently concluded ODI series between India and South Africa, the young fast bowler Arshdeep Singh earned accolades from former cricketer Gautam Gambhir for his impactful performances.

Arshdeep’s commendable effort played a pivotal role in India setting a formidable 297-run target for the Proteas in the series decider in Paarl. Gambhir, reviewing the match on Star Sports, expressed his satisfaction with Arshdeep’s display, emphasizing the positive signs for Indian cricket when young bowlers shine.

The former India opener highlighted Arshdeep’s crucial role as a left-arm seamer, stating that having a left-arm seamer in the squad provides a different dimension. Gambhir was impressed with Arshdeep’s series haul of 10 wickets, considering the limited assistance for fast bowling.

Gambhir stated: “These are good signs for Indian cricket when young fast bowlers perform like this when there wasn’t that much help for fast bowling. What can be better than picking up 10 wickets in the series?”

The former India star added: “We always say that a left-arm seamer should be in the squad, that a left-arm seamer gives a different dimension. The sort of series Arshdeep has had, I believe he will take a lot of confidence from this.”

Arshdeep Singh: The man of crisis

Arshdeep Singh, who had not claimed a wicket in his previous three ODIs, made a remarkable turnaround in the South Africa series. His maiden five-wicket haul (5/37) in the first game earned him the Player of the Series award for his impactful contributions in both Indian victories.

Gautam Gambhir specifically praised Arshdeep Singh dismissal of Reeza Hendricks, highlighting the skill displayed as the ball moved away after pitching. The left-arm seamer, known for his ability to swing the ball, adapted to the conditions by using the scrambled seam effectively.

Identifying the dismissal of Tony de Zorzi as the turning point of the game, Gautam Gambhir noted the significance of Arshdeep’s performance, especially when there was limited assistance for fast bowlers. De Zorzi, who played a crucial role in the second ODI, was dismissed by Arshdeep for a vital 81 runs in the series decider.

Gambhir concluded by acknowledging Arshdeep Singh exceptional performance and expressed confidence that the young bowler would gain significant confidence from his outstanding contributions in the series.

Arshdeep’s impactful performances have not only added depth to the Indian bowling lineup but also showcased the promising talent emerging in the fast-bowling department.
