Is Anil Kumble’s name being misused? Former spinner denies fake quotes related to IND vs AUS series

Anil Kumble denies fake quotes attributed to him during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, urging fans to verify information and trust only official channels.

Former Indian cricket captain and legendary spinner, Anil Kumble, recently addressed the misuse of his name and image on social media during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Kumble clarified that forged quotes attributed to him were circulating online, especially during IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Brisbane. Kumble’s name was wrongly linked to statements about the form of certain players in the Indian team. However, the cricket legend strongly denied these claims. In a tweet, he categorically denied any association with the fake accounts sharing these quotes.

Kumble’s statement on Social Media misinformation

Kumble tweeted, “It has come to my attention that some social media accounts are using my image and attributing fabricated quotes to me. I want to categorically deny any association with these accounts and their content. The statements being circulated are not my views and do not reflect my opinion.” Kumble further urged fans to be cautious of misinformation on social media. He highlighted that his official channels are the only reliable source for his views and statements.

India’s struggling position in the 3rd Test

The timing of Kumble’s clarification coincides with India’s troubled position in the ongoing match. On Day 3, India were 51/4 in reply to Australia’s total of 445 runs. This situation added further tension to an already intense series. The incident sheds light on the growing problem of fake news during major sporting events. Fans must be vigilant about verifying information before accepting or sharing it, as the impact of misinformation continues to grow.

Sunil Gavaskar’s experience with fake news

Anil Kumble isn’t the only cricket legend facing such issues. Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recently threatened legal action against a website that published a fake column under his name during the Perth Test.
