India on Tuesday announced their 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian selectors decided to leave out Rinku Singh and Ravi Bishnoi, naming the former in the reserves squad.
Rinku would be disappointed
Speaking on Rinku’s exclusion, Pathan said, “He excelled for KKR last year. When he played for India, he performed as well. When you have a strike rate of 170+ and an average of close to 60-70, and then you’re not being paid, you’ll be very disappointed.”
‘Fielding factor comes into play’
On Bishnoi’s exclusion, Pathan said Bishnoi’s average fielding played a part in him being axed from the squad.
“Bishnoi, ranked number 6 in the world in ICC rankings, I know he misses out to a master champion when it comes to the spin department in Chahal. But his fielding was additional as well when it comes to Bishnoi,” Pathan said.

Pathan’s demand: Fearless cricket
Pathan also urged the Indian team to play fearless cricket in the knockout phase of the tournament.
“The guys that have been selected will have to perform when the pressure comes in. I’m not worried about the first half, I am concerned about the knock out matches. This is where I want the Indian team to play fearless cricket. This is where I thought the Indian team missed out on the last two World Cups,” he said.
