The International Cricket Council (ICC) has received a letter from Cricket Ireland regarding their treatment during the most recent T\20 World Cup in the United States. It is believed that arrangements regarding Ireland’s hotel for the competition’s New York leg prompted Cricket the team’s officials to get in touch with the ICC, despite the challenging playing conditions, including the widely criticized Long Island pitch.
Ireland latest team to question ICC’s logistical arrangements
Before the T20 World Cup began, Ireland were supposed to stay near the Nassau County International Stadium on Long Island; however, plans were changed two weeks prior to kickoff of the tournament.
The stadium was about a 90-minute drive away from the new hotel, which was situated in Brooklyn. One of Ireland’s rivals in New York, India, stayed at a hotel near the Long Island venue.
Training sessions hampered
They skipped one or more training sessions while in New York due to the long commute to the ground and the close proximity of training facilities. The team also tried to postpone a press conference scheduled for before the game so that a player wouldn’t have to travel several hours one way to do media duties. In the end, a compromise was achieved.

Ireland send ‘event feedback’
In a statement, a Cricket Ireland spokesman said that the organisation has sent “event feedback” to the ICC.
“We will engage with them further once the tournament is concluded. Following tournaments, there are standard event debrief processes that we will additionally contribute to.”
It’s unclear if this was mentioned in Cricket Ireland’s complaint, but before their opening match against India, Ireland didn’t practice or play at the Nassau County International Stadium.
