India’s U19 captain Yash Dhull has been called up to the Irani Cup squad after a stellar start to his first-class career. The 19-year-old scored centuries on debut in both Ranji and Duleep Trophy and will rub shoulders with some of the best in the Indian circuit in the Rest of the India team.

While he opened for Delhi, the 2022 Under-19 WC winning captain will eye for a middle-order berth alongside captain Hanuma Vihari, in-form Sarfaraz Khan and keeper KS Bharat. At the top of the order, Cricinfo reports that four openers have been selected in Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Priyank Panchal and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Agarwal is eyeing a comeback, the other three have been in sublime form in red-ball formats.

Jaiswal joins the team on the back of a career-best 265 for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone last week. Easwaran and Panchal, meanwhile, were among the runs for India A during their 1-0 home series win over New Zealand A. Both batters have been India A regulars for the past three years and have been previously called up to the Indian team.

While the batting looks stacked, the bowling attack is raw and thin. Umran Malik has been named in the squad despite an underwhelming start to his red ball career. Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Sen and Arzan Nagwaswalla are the other pacers in the squad. Jayant Yadav and Saurabh Kumar are the front-line spinners on the team.

Mukesh Kumar impressed in his debut series with India A, while Nagwaswalla has been a regular net bowler with the Indian team. They will be up against a strong Saurashtra line-up, likley to feature stalwart Cheteshwar Pujara.

The Rest of India squad will be coached by Sitanshu Kotak. Kotak has just finished a stint with India A, who he coached to a 3-0 sweep in the white-ball leg of the New Zealand series at home. The former Saurashtra captain has worked closely with NCA chief VVS Laxman and accompanied him on the tour of Ireland.

Rest of India squad: Abhimanyu Easwaran, Priyank Panchal, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari (captain), Sarfaraz Khan, Yashaswi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, KS Bharat, Upendra Yadav (wicketkeepers), Kuldeep Sen, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar, Arzan Nagwaswalla, Jayant Yadav, Saurabh Kumar
