The film will be an adaptation of a soon-to-be-released book titled ‘Maverick Commissioner: The IPL-Lalit Modi Saga’, which is written by sports journalist Boria Majumdar. The book focuses on the story of Lalit Modi and what led to the formation of IPL and also the story after that as Modi was given a life ban by the BCCI. The book will be published by Simon & Schuster India and will be released on May 20.
Even before the release of the book, the film adaptation of it has been announced. Giving an update about the film on his Twitter account, Producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri tweeted, “Winning the 83 World Cup was the tip of the iceberg.

Lalit Modi was the first one to come up with the idea of launching a tournament in India that involves players from all around the globe playing together. BCCI took his idea ahead and launched the Indian Premier League in 2008 with eight franchises. Modi was appointed as the chairman and commissioner of the league.
The league officially kickstarted on 18th April 2008 and 15 years down the line, the tournament has become the biggest cricket league in the world. It is also contributing to Indian cricket immensely as many talents have been unearthed from the league, who have went on to play for the national side.
In 2010, the association between IPL and Lalit Modi however came to an end as he was suspended by the BCCI over corruption claims. Three years later, he was banned completely by the cricket board for indiscipline and misconduct.
