It’s a treat for MS Dhoni fans, as they are set to witness the legendary skipper lead Chennai Super Kings once again! MS Dhoni will captain CSK for the remainder of IPL 2025.
However, there’s no such good news for Ruturaj Gaikwad fans. We’ve seen him struggle with form recently, and now, adding to the woes, Gaikwad has been ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow fracture. Head Coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the development on Thursday, ahead of CSK’s next clash against KKR.
Now, all eyes are once again on MS Dhoni, the captain who led CSK to five IPL titles. But do you remember when was the last time this super captain led CSK? Take a look back at Dhoni’s last game as captain and what happened that night.
What happened the last time MS Dhoni captained CSK?
The 43-year-old last captained the side in the 2023 season, when he guided the team to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. The rain-affected IPL 2023 final spanned two days, where Dhoni’s CSK defeated Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this victory, CSK matched Mumbai Indians’ tally of five titles and denied Gujarat their second consecutive championship.
Gujarat Titans, batting first, posted a massive 214/4 in 20 overs, with Sai Sudharsan scoring a brilliant 96 off 47 balls. It was the highest total ever in an IPL final. Due to rain, CSK’s target was revised to 171 runs in 15 overs via the DLS method. In a thrilling chase, CSK won by 5 wickets.
