IPL wala rule hai kya?: ‘Confused’ KL Rahul asks captain Rohit Sharma during IND vs SL 1st ODI

Is KL Rahul still in the IPL zone, where players are allowed to review wides and no-balls?

Rohit Sharma’s return to the Indian ODI captaincy is marked not just by his leadership prowess but also by a familiar dose of his trademark wit and banter. The modern-day great, known for his entertaining on-field antics, didn’t disappoint as India took on Sri Lanka in the first ODI. On the flip side, KL Rahul seemed to be confused between different set of rules in international cricket and in IPL.

LBW or wide?

A contentious DRS decision during Sri Lanka’s innings provided the perfect stage for the KL Rahul-Rohit Sharma show. After a heated appeal for a potential Leg Before Wicket (lbw), the umpire surprisingly signaled a wide. The Indian players were left scratching their heads, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma joining KL Rahul for a quick consultation.

Typical Rohit Sharma!

As the trio walked back to their positions, the stump mic picked up a conversation between Rohit Shivam Dube, who was bowling the 14th over. The latter expressed his belief that he heard a sound, suggesting a possible lbw. To this, Rohit responded with his characteristic candidness, “Tum ko toh ye bolna chahie ki bat dur hai ya pad door hai. Bat agar door hai toh who bol raha hai 100% awaz aya. (You should know whether the bat is far from the pad or not. If the bat is away, then he is saying there is a noise for sure).”

KL Rahul still in IPL mode?

The conversation took an interesting turn when KL Rahul asked the captain of the IPL’s rule allowing teams to review wides. ” IPL wala rule hai kya? IPL me wide bach jaata hai na, issi liye bol raha hai wo” (Are IPL rules here? In IPL, the reviews can be taken for wides, that’s why he is saying),” Rahul said. Teams are permitted to challenge wide and no-ball calls in the IPL. In international cricket, there isn’t a mechanism in place to review these calls.
