IPL vs PSL money comparison: Base price in IPL Auction higher than salaries earned by players in PAK

IPL vs PSL: Top Pakistani players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi ended up earning less than the base price of most players in IPL.

It is a known fact that IPL is better than PSL in every regard, but when it comes to money, there is no comparison between the two. The Pakistani league has been improving over the years, but the IPL continues to soar to greater heights with each passing moment. While realistically there is no comparison between IPL and PSL, but still it is one mundane exercise that is done everytime.

IPL vs PSL, No Comparison at All

So, going forward, to put things into perspective, PSL, last time around had salary caps in different brackets — platinum, diamond, gold, supplementary and silver categories. Salary bracket for platinum stood at USD 170,000, followed by USD 150,000, USD 130,000, USD 85000, USD 60,000, with the last one being USD 25,000.

That meant top Pakistani players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Muhammad Rizwan ended up earning only approximately INR 1.4 Cr, which is even lower than the base price set for the IPL Auction 2025, for certain big players. What top Indian players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul ended up earning at the IPL auction is way out of question, but then their base price being higher than PSLs highest salary cap is a testament of IPLs supremacy.

IPL Auction 2025

Just to take the argument further, some of the players who played at the PSL, also got picked in the IPL. Starting with Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, KKR bagged him for INR 2 Cr, while in PSL he made INR 1.4 Cr in PSL. Rashid Khan, who was retained by GT for INR 18 Cr, while at the Pakistani rival league, he earned INR 1.2 Cr. David Miller was bagged by LSG for INR 7.5 Cr, while in Pakistan he earned approx. INR 1.03 Cr only.
