IPL Trophy: Numbers of winners, team with most titles, franchises with no trophies & winners list

The 17th edition of the IPL is expected to run from March 14 to May 25, 2025.

We are still about two and a half months away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season kicking off. So, there is no point in talking about who’ll be the winner come May. But what we can discuss is who the past winners of the coveted IPL trophy are. How many teams have won an IPL title and franchises that never got a chance to get their hands on it?

Number of teams that have won the IPL trophy

Seven teams have won an IPL trophy. These are the Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans.

Which team has the most IPL titles?

CSK and MI have won the most titles, i.e., five each. CSK has won the coveted title in the following years: 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023. Meanwhile, MI has won it in the following seasons: 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

First team to win multiple IPL trophies

CSK was the first team to win multiple IPL titles. They won back-to-back in 2010 and 2011, becoming the first franchise to have multiple IPL trophies.

Team to win multiple IPL trophies

CSK, MI, and KKR are the only teams that have won multiple IPL titles. CSK did it in 2011, MI in 2015, and KKR in 2014.

Teams that have never won an IPL trophy

There are eight teams that have played in the league and have never won an IPL trophy. These are Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals (former Delhi Daredevils), Punjab Kings (Kings XI Punjab), Lucknow Super Giants, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Pune Warriors, Gujarat Lions, and Rising Pune Supergiant.
