With just days left for the deadline for teams to submit their retention lists, it has come to light that Delhi Capitals are not interested in retaining Rishabh Pant. The southpaw would be a major attraction at the IPL 2025 mega auction, should he go under the hammer if DC don’t retain him. The IPL teams have time till October 31 to finalize on their retentions.
DC to not retain Rishbah Pant ahead of IPL 2025?
As per Times of India, the decision on the fate of Rishabh Pant‘s retention is taking time due to a “major overhaul” in the franchise’s operations. Additionally, the report states that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are interested to rope in the southpaw, should DC let go of their skipper ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. However, the report also claims that DC wants to retain Pant but is working out modalities between stakeholders GMR and JSW group.

Rishabh Pant took over as the captain of Delhi Capitals in 2021 but hasn’t tasted much success while leading the side. He made his comeback in IPL 2024 from a horrific car crash that left him sidelined for over a year. The southpaw is one of the best talents that a team could have and would surely be a retention under the Rs 18 crore or Rs 14 crore bracket.
However, with teams deciding to hit the reset button ahead of IPL 2025, Pant’s services – as batter, keeper and captain – could come of better use for franchises like LSG and PBKS. While reports state that LSG is not keen on retaining skipper KL Rahul, PBKS will enter the IPL 2025 auction with a skipper, with Shikhar Dhawan having retired following the last season.
Earlier, reports of Axar Patel replacing Pant as the skipper also did the rounds, adding to the suspense over DC’s choice of retentions. Pant was once considered a viable option for CSK and his recent midnight tweet, left everyone perplexed (even DC’s management). Pant took to his social media and asked his fans if he entered the IPL auction, how much money would he be ‘sold’ for.
