Despite being a talented all-rounder, it would only be fair to say that son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun is yet to realise his true potential. He has managed to play a handful of IPL matches for MI in a couple of seasons, picking up only three wickets, while batting opportunities have been scanty.
Will MI Retain Arjun Tendulkar?
But then Ranji Trophy is where now Goa player is trying to prove his mettle, just before the IPL retentions, that will be announced, on October 31. The fast-bowling all-rounder, a rare commodity in Indian cricket, has had decent returns for his side Goa this year, in the plate division, that could now impress the MI management.
In the ongoing clash against Nagaland, not only did he return with figures of 3/27 in the first innings, but he also scored valuable 42 from 39 deliveries in the second innings, smashing two fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, this isn’t the only noteworthy performance by Arjun Tendulkar in this year’s Ranji Trophy.
In the previous match vs Sikkim, he returned with six wickets, that was enough for his team to register an innings win. Arjun will like to continue with his rich vein of form in the lead up to the IPL, in case he does not get retained in IPL by MI. In that case, other teams might want to hire his services.
For now, he might be in direct competition with Akash Madhwal and Nehal Wadhera, who had decent returns for MI in IPL 2024. In 6 matches this season, Nehal scored 106 runs with a highest score of 49, while Madhwal secured 5 wickets in as many matches for the team. In case, Arjun is retained, it will be a huge salary jump for the 25-year-old, who was kept in the side for INR 30 lakh. Upon retention, he would receive a sum of INR 4 crore.
