IPL Retention: “Wrong” Shashank Singh eager to prove his Rs 5 Cr price tag “right”, to PBKS owners

IPL retention: PBKS made sure they only retained two players, in Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran, so they could build a team from scratch.

The “wrong” Shashank Singh was finally rewarded for his performances in the IPL 2024, when he was named as the IPL retention for PBKS on Thursday. He was offered a sum of INR 5 Cr, after he scored 354 in 14 matches for the franchise, at an average of 44.25. Along with him, opener Prabhsimran Singh was also retained.

Chuffed by the IPL retention, Shashank Singh has said, that he will prove his team owners right, for persisting with him. “I am extremely grateful to the franchise as they have given me an opportunity again and shown their faith in me. Having been in the circuit for the last five years, this opportunity they have given me is something I’ll be forever grateful for. Now, it’s my time to prove them right,” Shashank said after the retentions were announced.

Last year, during the IPL Auction, Shashank was bagged at a base price of INR 20 lakh, mistakenly, when the team was looking for the other Shashank Singh. Later on, the confusion was cleared. “As a professional, you have to give your 100%, and that’s why you are there. The way Punjab Kings and the fans have shown trust in me, it’s my responsibility to double up my performances and ensure we go for the championship,” he emphasised.

Now, the 32-year-old will have a chance to work with new coach Ricky Ponting, who has been named the new coach for the franchise. “Working with Ricky Ponting Sir will be the best thing for me this year. He is a legend of this game, and I am eager to learn new things under his guidance,” added Shashank.

Just for the record, Shashank was excellent this year, with his innings of 61, where he chased down 262 for PBKS.
