The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the IPL retention rules by the end of August. The development comes after the board and the owners of the franchises held discussions over various topics, with retentions headlining the meeting. Having heard all parties, the BCCI will now make its decision soon.
IPL retention rules by end of August
“We’ve heard the views of all the franchises. For us a minority view is as important as the majority opinion. Ultimately the office-bearers (of the BCCI) will decide,” Jay Shah was quoted saying by TOI.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah also spoke about the possibility of the number of games being increased in the next edition. He said that nothing was confirmed and said that the workload of players and the window will have to be considered before taking a call.
“Nothing is confirmed,” Shah said. “We will collectively decide. We’ve to factor in the workload of the players and the window also. It’s in the contract but it is up to the BCCI to decide.”
Earlier, a Cricbuzz report stated that the board won’t do away with the IPL mega auction but is willing to allow franchises to retain six players instead of the previous limit of four.
