Talks of MS Dhoni being retained for Rs 4 Cr far-fetched, Ashwin “unsure” if he’ll play IPL 2025

IPL retention: R Ashwin went on to reveal that the uncapped player rule might not ensure that MS Dhoni plays IPL 2025.

The new uncapped player rule by the IPL GC for the upcoming retentions has left the experts wondering, if MS Dhoni will be retained for INR 4 Cr only by CSK. To put it simply, the answer is yes. But then, that would only be possible if Dhoni will even play in IPL 2025.

Speaking on his Hindi Youtube channel, R Ashwin raised a pertinent point, and went on to say, that even he doesn’t know about Dhoni’s future plans. “Everyone needs to understand that this rule was already there in the IPL earlier. If an India capped player did not play for the national team for over five years, they became uncapped players in the IPL.

“Dhoni bhai announced his retirement in 2019..this rule was only reinstated. Having said that, we don’t know if MSD will play or not. All I saw of him was, him on a vacation and then driving around in his car,” Ashwin said on his channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’.

“I really don’t know if he will play, I have no clue. MS Dhoni is the kind of person who doesn’t reveal anything till the last moment. During the Covid season, Danny Morrison asked him if it was his last season, he said ‘definitely not’, and it has been three seasons since then.”
