Currently, the salary purse is fixed at Rs 90 crore. But the board is mulling to increase it substantially before next season.
InsideSport has learnt that the windfall of cash from the IPL MEDIA RIGHTS will positively impact players’ salaries.
It is worth noting that teams have locked most of their squad for 3 years via mega-auction before IPL 2022. The locked players will not get any increase in the salary.
But for MINI-AUCTION before the IPL 2023 – teams can get more monies to spend.
Instead of Rs 90 crore, the purse can increase to 120-130 crore if teams agree for the same. The IPL Governing Council will soon take the final decision on the same.

Rs 44,075 crore came from broadcasting and digital rights for the sub-continent alone for IPL 2023-IPL 2027. Furthermore, BCCI will receive another handsome bid for the rest of the world and non-exclusive packages.

IPL Media Rights: How the windfall of cash will impact players?
- The salary purse for IPL 2023 is set to be doubled to Rs 180 Crore.
- That will see players not only get a mega hike in salary but also cross the Rs 20 or even Rs 25 crore mark in upcoming auctions.
- The prize money is also set to increase for the coming year. The IPL title winner currently gets Rs 20 Crore. It is set to increase a minimum of 25% for IPL 2023.
- The central contract is also set to be remade. The current highest slab of Rs 7 crore will also see a significant boost in numbers.
- The players have been pushing for a better contract considering the match load.
- The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah can expect in excess of Rs 15 crore, making them the highest-paid cricketers.
