Chennai Super Kings fans breathed a sigh of relief after the CSK vs RR match. Before the last league match in Chennai, speculation had surfaced that it’d be the final time they’d see MS Dhoni live. As the game went on, the fear kept growing and growing.
MS Dhoni’s retirement has to wait
Getting closer to the 142-run target, fans feared that Dhoni might retire without them seeing him bat for the last time. With just 5 runs left to chase, it seemed clear that Thala wouldn’t be getting a chance. Then, Sameer Rizvi hit two fours, and the game was done.
The broadcasters didn’t pan the camera toward Dhoni, and even the players were greeting each other as is customary. It seemed like that dreaded moment wasn’t to come today. The only thing left were the post-match interviews. When MS Dhoni didn’t come out even then, it was confirmed that the retirement announcement wasn’t coming today.
That concern was also dissolved during the CSK vs RR match, when someone on the Tamil broadcast and fans, unfortunately, couldn’t pick it up. Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni’s friend and former teammate, said that his retirement was ‘definitely not’ coming today.
