IPL New Teams Controversy – Ganguly to exit ATKMB? BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has resigned as Director of ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB) after allegations of Conflict of Interest were hurled at him. InsideSport had reported on Tuesday that Ganguly will exit ATKMB soon. Ganguly confirmed the development on Wednesday after officially resigning from the post of director of the leading ISL Club. 

It is worth noting that Sanjeev Goenka promoted RPSG Ventures won the bid for Lucknow franchise in the IPL on Monday. Post that Ganguly was under-fire for the Co-ownership of ISL team ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB) with Goenka.

IPL New Teams Controversy: After conflict of interest allegations, Sourav Ganguly set to exit ATK-Mohun Bagan

Ganguly exits ATKMB: RPSG Ventures on Monday won the bid for the Lucknow franchise in the IPL for a record Rs 7,090 crore. Even before Sourav had officially announced his decision, Goenka had hurriedly told the media that the former Indian captain will exit the club.

“Well, I think he is going to step down from Mohun Bagan completely… I think today,” Goenka said. Once he realized that he has jumped the gun, he quickly added: “It is for Sourav to make the announcement. I mean, sorry. I think I pre-empted it.” said Goenka on Tuesday. 

Why Sourav Ganguly has exited ATK Mohun Bagan? ATKMB is owned by Kolkata Games and Sports Pvt. Ltd. consisting of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, alongside businessmen Harshavardhan Neotia, Sanjiv Goenka, and Utsav Parekh, according to the official website of the club.

Sourav was also listed as Director on the official platform. 

According to various officials in BCCI InsideSport spoke to on Tuesday, ‘it’s a clear case of conflict of interest & the BCCI President should be careful of all these issues’

IPL New Teams Controversy – CVC Ventures Deal in Trouble? Meanwhile the controversy doesn’t end with RPSG Ventures & Ganguly’s conflict of Interest issue. Questions are being raised on deal with CVC Capital Ventures for the Ahmedabad franchise as well. Despite winning the new IPL team bid fairly and squarely, reports are doing the rounds that CVC Capital may lose Ahmedabad franchise for alleged betting investments. 
 
Leading publication Outlook has reported that CVC ventures can lose IPL franchise of Ahmedabad, reason its links with betting companies. The reports says company has huge investments in some of the leading betting companies. The report further quoting sources has claimed that  ‘BCCI’s attention has been drawn to CVC Capital’s business activities and it was strange that these were not noticed during the long “verification stage” before the financials were opened on Monday evening
 
The reports says Adani Group is now weighing its options & can raise formal complaint against the new owners.

InsideSport reached out to BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal who was part of the team that has overseen the bid process. Dhumal clarified no formal complaint has been received in this regard. 
 
“CVC Capitals won the bid because of their bid amount. There are a lot of things still to be worked on. Their stakes or interests in other activities have nothing to do with IPL Bidding. If there is any complaint we will address that in due course of time. For now, there is nothing to add to the statements we released on Monday”.
