Rajasthan Royal‘s leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal took a memorable hat-trick in a five overs a side contest that was eventually called off due to intermittent rain, pushing Royal Challengers Bangalore out of the IPL play-off race here on Tuesday.

Gopal finally broke through, as he had Kohli mistiming a swing and Livingstone caught a simple catch at long on. On the next delivery, AB de Villiers who had crossed over on the previous ball, tried to heave Gopal over the fence. He miscued the ball high in the air, and got caught beyond the ring at the cover.

Marcus Stoinis walked out to face the hat-trick ball. Gopal bowled a flat delivery around off, and Stoinis took it on. He looked to bludgeon it down the ground, but didn’t get hold of it, mistiming it to Smith at mid-off. Shreyas Gopal had the elusive hat-trick, the second of the season after Sam Curran got one against Delhi Capitals. Gopal ran all the way towards Livingstone and jumped up, hugging the Englishman. Celebrations went wild as Shreyas enjoyed every moment of the feat on his home ground.

Gopal’s hat-trick has consolidated his IPL 2019 performance card as he has made an extensive jump from the 40th rank to 33rd in the IPL Moneyball Impact point table. Shreyas’ last match hat-trick added 30 impact points in his performance scorecard

IMPACT RANK

Impact Rank is a methodology devised by Moneyball to rate players on the basis of their performance impact on the match in all aspects – batting, bowling, fielding – of the game. The Impact Rank takes into consideration runs scored, wickets and catches took as well as stumping and run-outs executed by a player.

IMPACT POINTS CALCULATION

Impact points are arrived at by applying the formula for performance evaluation. Players earn one point for each run scored, 10 points are allocated for each wicket while catching, stumping and run-out add three points to a players IMPACT RANK.

Apart from the Impact Rank, Moneyball (the professional sports wages calculation tool) has also developed the VALUE FOR MONEY RANK methodology which devised to rate the player for their Value for money.

VALUE FOR MONEY RANK

Value for Money rankings is derived by dividing a players’ annual salary with his IMPACT POINTS. In simple terms, the gross annual salary of the player is divided by the impact points to arrive at his VALUE FOR MONEY RANK. Players with the lowest amount spent for each impact point get ranking higher up the order.

Shreyas Gopal has acquired the 2nd spot in the top 5 VALUE FOR MONEY RANK table across 49 matches of this season. Shreyas’ ₹ 62,111.80 Each Impact Point Cost have placed him in the top 5 VALUE FOR MONEY table.
