IPL Media Rights Tender – IPL Rights BID ZEE Entertainment: The much awaited IPL Media Rights Tender is just few days away now.  Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) during its earning call has declared that they may BID-SOLO for the IPL Rights. “We can participate in the IPL tender on our own. We have a very healthy balance sheet with zero debt. Certainly, we have the qualification to participate in the tender,” ZEEL MD and CEO Punit Goenka said during the company’s Q4 earnings call.

IPL Rights BID ZEE Entertainment: During the EARNING CALL, Goenka was queried if the company will raise debt for funding the IPL media rights acquisition?

This is how ZEE MD replied.

“We don’t have to pay any money or a large sum of money upfront. It’s only when the rights start you have to pay for them. Until then, there are only instruments like bank guarantee, etc,” he stated.

IPL Media Rights Tender – IPL Media Rights Auction: Meanwhile The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has roped in Mjunction for the IPL Media Rights e-auction that will begin on June 12.

The joint venture between Tata Steel and Steel Authority of Indian Limited (SAIL) has already conducted e-auction in the past for BCCI Media rights. 

The company will be providing the platform for the e-auction. Moreover, to facilitate the services, Mjunction will also conduct a workshop and mock auctions for the parties involved.

IPL Media Rights e-Auction Schedule:

June 12:

  • Bundle A – Indian Sub Continent Broadcast: Base price in this category is Rs 49 crore per game. Overall 74 Games base price would be Rs 18,130 crore for five years.
  • Bundle B – Digital rights Indian Sub-Continent: Base price for this package is Rs 33 crore per game. For five years, the calculation is Rs 12,210 crore.

June 13:

  • Bundle CNon-Exclusive Package (DIGITAL): The much-debated special package is in Bundle C which comprises 18 games and the reserve price in this cluster is Rs 16 crore per game. At 74 games per season and calculated for five years, the price of this bundle is Rs 1440 crore. 18 Games in this package will be – Opening Match, 4 Playoff matches & 13 Evening Double Header matches
  • Bundle D: Rest of the World Rights (Outside Sub-Continent): Base price for this package is Rs 3 crore per game. The combined value of the reserve price is Rs 1110. crore for five years.

IPL Media Rights: BCCI ropes in Mjunction for IPL Media Rights e-Auction on June 12

The last time BCCI sold the IPL Media rights, it received over Rs 16,000 Crore. This time, the BCCI expects double that amount.

While BCCI has sold its media rights through e-Auction earlier, this is the first time that highly-anticipated IPL Media Rights will be e-auctioned.

The Indian board has set a base price of Rs 18,130 crore for five years for 74 games an edition.

With interest from over a dozen parties, the BCCI had to extend the deadline from May 10 to 20. Apart from domestic players like Star, Sony, Zee and Reliance, trillion-dollar tech giants such as Amazon, Apple and Google have picked up bid documents.
