E-Auction or Closed Bids? The sources in board informed InsideSport that the board & their consultants are inclined towards E-Auction process for the sale of media rights.

BCCI had earlier employed the same process for the sale of India Cricket & BCCI’s Title Sponsorship rights & the results were great. The board is likely to again opt for E-AUCTION for the sale of IPL Media Rights for the period of 2023 to 2027.

“Nothing is finalized as such but obviously e-auction gave good result for the sale of BILATERAL media rights. We feel e-auction is a right way to go & can drive best possible value for the rights”, said top BCCI official.

In 2017, the IPL rights were sold via closed bids. Star India (now part of Disney) outbidded Sony Network & others to acquire the rights for Rs 16,347 crore.

BCCI is now expecting bid in a range of 35,000 to 40,000 Crores which is almost 150% of the last value of rights.

“12,000 Crore for sale of two franchises was phenomenal. Fingers crossed, we should get 40,000 crore plus from the IPL Media Rights.”, recently BCCI President Sourav Ganguly shared light on his expectations.
