Ravichandran Ashwin delivered a heart warming speech before the IND vs ENG 5th Test, asking youngsters to concentrate on Test cricket. Ashwin, playing his 100th Test, was handed a special cap by Indian coach Rahul Dravid before the commencement of the game.
Ashwin has been a vocal supporter of Test cricket right since his early days. The off spinner has always prioritised Test cricket and the achievement of playing 100 Tests stands testimony to this fact. Ashwin reiterated his belief in his speech on Thursday, comparing Test cricket to life.
“I would like to tell something to the entire cricketing fraternity right now. The IPL has been a hugely popular tournament. A lot of kids want to play T20s and get into IPL. I really do wish them well and they do get there. But remember one thing, this format teaches you a lot of things that life won’t teach you. Test cricket is a lot like life is. It is the closest synergy that you can find to life. It will teach you adaptability, dealing with pressure so on and so forth,” Ashwin said.
“Remember all those things will keep you in great stead if you decide to go all the way in this game. This great game will give you a lot of dividends for whatever work you put into it,” he added.
