There are still a couple of hours to go before the meeting between the BCCI and IPL franchise owners. But we’re hearing that some teams aren’t happy with foreign players who bail out of the league all of a sudden after giving ‘lazy’ excuses. This was rampant during the most recent 2024 edition, where players skipped the 2-month-long tournament for reasons like fatigue or injury.
IPL franchises demand strict action
However, many franchises think that most of these reasons aren’t valid. Some skip the IPL after receiving lower bids than expected at the auction. These actions can’t be tolerated, and the franchises want the BCCI to take some action, with some teams even suggesting banning these players.
According to Cricbuzz, in a recent meeting with BCCI CEO Hemang Amin, officials from franchises raised the issue. Rightly, they pointed out that due to their sudden withdrawal, their plan didn’t pan out, and they had to seek another foreign star as a replacement at the last moment.

Even players unhappy
Weirdly enough, England’s white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, wasn’t happy with the ECB after they pulled him and other English players out of the IPL 2024 Playoffs to play a T20I series against Pakistan. Buttler, who was pivotal in the Rajasthan Royals making it to the playoffs, suggested that no international games should be played during the tournament. Naturally, Rajasthan weren’t happy either, as they got knocked out after having to find his replacement.
