IPL 2024 start date is confirmed. IPL Governing Council Chairman Arun Dhumal has revealed that the 17th edition of Indian Premier League will begin on March 22 in Chennai. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings and runners-up Gujarat Titans are likely to face off in the opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
“We are looking at a March 22 start for the tournament. We are working closely with the government agencies and we will first release the initial schedule,” Arun Dhumal told PTI.
IPL 2024 Schedule in two halves
As InsideSport earlier reported, IPL 2024 Schedule could be out in two halves due to Lok Sabha Election 2024.
Dhumal confirmed that IPL Schedule for the first 15 days will be announced first. The rest will be out after the Lok Sabha Election dates are out.

IPL to remain in India
Despite clashing with Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Dhumal confirmed that IPL 2024 will stay in India. In 2009 and 2014 IPL had to be shifted out of India. In 2009, IPL was conducted in South Africa. 2014 edition partially happened in the UAE.
“The entire tournament will be held in India,” Dhumal added.
