This Ranji Trophy season might just come as blessing in disguise for some of the Indian players, who are in fray at the IPL Auction. While the formats are totally different, the team managements will be keeping a keen eye on certain players, as far as their form goes. Shreyas Iyer with a couple of tons will keep his potential price up, and so will Rishabh Pant.
Mahipal Lomror for RCB at IPL Auction
But a new name has been thrown into the mix. After RCB released him at the IPL Retention, Mahipal Lomror has struck back with a massive triple-ton, in the fifth round Ranji Trophy match vs Uttarakhand on Thursday. The former Rajasthan skipper Mahipal Lomror, also known as India’s Chris Gayle in domestic circles, scored 300 from only 360 deliveries, hitting 25 fours and 13 sixes.
It must be reminded to all, that in IPL 2024, Mahipal had played 10 matches for RCB, and scored only 125 runs, but his strike rate was up at 183. So, RCB would not only be tempted to use RTM on him at the IPL Auction, but maybe give him a promotion in the batting order, and make him open with Virat Kohli.
Excellent Ranji Trophy Season
RCB, as it is, have 3 RTMs left on them, and a purse of 83 Cr. The team would also be in the running for someone like a KL Rahul, who will not only provide them with the stability, but also can be their skipper, after Faf du Plessis was released.
Coming back to Mahipal Lomror, he has been excellent this year with the bat in the Ranji Trophy. Against Himachal, he scored 99, and in the last match against Hyderabad, he went on to score 111. Apart from that he is the second highest run-scorer this year in the Ranji Trophy with 529 in only 5 matches, at an average of 105.80. He has also hit a staggering 19 sixes in this season, joint-highest with J&Ks Abdul Samad.
RCB Retained Players
Virat Kohli (21 Crore), Rajat Patidar (11 Crore), Yash Dayal (5 Crore).
