IPL Auction: 3 candidates who can become future PBKS captain

PBKS have a huge sum of Rs 110.5 crore purse left going to the IPL mega auction .

IPL 2025: PBKS retained only two players in the IPL 2025 retentions as they will search for a new captain under the guidance of head coach Ricky Ponting. In the IPL mega auction, PBKS will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with a massive purse of Rs 110.5 crore and have four right-to-match (RTM) cards in their kitty. It must be mentioned that the Punjab Kings are yet to win the coveted IPL trophy so far and will look to make history with a new skipper in the upcoming IPL edition. On that note, let us check out 3 players that PBKS can target as their captain for IPL 2025.

3 players PBKS may target as captain

Shreyas Iyer

The winning captain of IPL 2024, Shreyas Iyer, was not retained by KKR for the upcoming IPL edition. Under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership, KKR clinched its third IPL trophy as PBKS might look to break their purse to bag Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming IPL 2025 edition. Speaking about Shreyas Iyer numbers, the right-handed batter has played 115 matches and scored 3127 at a strike rate of 127.48.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has already worked with Ricky Ponting in the Delhi Capitals. With Ponting coaching, he might convince the PBKS think tank to go for Pant in the IPL mega auction. With the Ponting-Pant duo at the top, the Kings can look to build a strong unit and start a fresh journey for the Punjab Kings, who are yet to win the prestigious IPL trophy.

David Warner

David Warner’s leadership with Sunrisers Hyderabad saw them clinch the IPL title, showcasing his capability to lead a team to victory. Known for his aggressive batting and sharp cricketing brain, Warner could inject a much-needed dose of intensity into PBKS. For PBKS, Warner’s inclusion would not only bolster their batting but also bring a winning mentality that’s infectious.
