Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is already expected to be the costliest buy in the auction. Staying true to the buzz, in the mock auction too there was a bidding war for the Australian. In the end, Scott Styris, representing Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for a whopping 20 crores.
Talking about the buy, the former Kiwi all-rounder said. “I actually think he will be Sunrisers’ No.1 pick, above Stokes. I think Cam Green offers plenty of options. So he will be their No.1 target tomorrow.”
Top Buys in IPL Mock Auction
Cameron Green – 20 cr by SRH
Sam Curran – 19.50 cr by CSK
Ben Stokes – 19 cr by PBKS
Odean Smith – 8.5 cr by MI
Pooran – 8.5 cr by LSG
Green will be entering the auction for the first-time in his career. One of the reasons for him being rated highly is his performance against India in India when Australia toured the country in September. He finished the three-match T20I series as the highest run scorer. He scored 118 runs in the series that included two fifties.
Apart from Green, England all-rounders Ben Stokes and Sam Curran too are expected to draw heavy pay-cheque in the auction. In the mock auction both the players finished as the second and third costliest buy. Suresh Raina representing Chennai Super Kings picked Curran for 19.50 crores, while Stokes went for 19 crores to Punjab Kings, represented by Eoin Morgan.
West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith (8.5 cr by MI) and his compatriot Nicholas Pooran (8.5 cr by LSG) were the next costliest buys. Meanwhile, there were no takers for Kane Williamson in the mock auction. Williamson led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last edition of the IPL. He was released by the franchise ahead of this year’s auction.
Unlike last time, IPL Auction in Kochi is a mini-auction and will last only a day. For the first time, IPL will have two separate broadcasters. Star Sports Network will have IPL 2023 Auction LIVE Broadcast. JioCinema will have IPL 2023 Auction LIVE Streaming. IPL Auction will start at 2:30 PM IST in Kochi’s Grand Hyatt hotel.
