InsideSport takes a look at 10 Mushtaq Ali players likely to be picked by the franchises in IPL Auction 2022.

1. Ashwin Hebbar (Andhra Pradesh): K Ashwin Hebbar was the top batsman for Andhra Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season. The 26-year-old had aggregated 273 runs, including a century, from 5 matches in SMAT 2021. Ashwin Hebbar came up with a brilliant century against Haryana by scoring 103* off 54 balls. Andhra Pradesh were knocked out from the tournament in the group stage, but Hebbar’s overall performance in SMAT 2021 might attract franchises in the IPL 2022 Auction.

2. Abhinav Manohar (Karnataka): Abhinav Manohar made headlines when he single-handedly led Karnataka to semifinals with his brilliant knock of 70* off 49 balls against Saurashtra. Interestingly, it was his debut match for Karnataka. In the final of SMAT 2021, Manohar had played knock of 46 off 37 balls against Tamil Nadu but went in vain as Karnataka lost to Tamil Nadu. However, his crucial role in helping the team in the knockout stage might grab headlines during the IPL 2022 Auction.

3. Atharva Taide (Vidarbha): Atharva Taide was one of the star batsmen for Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The 21-year-old played a crucial knock of 56 runs off 38 balls alongside a 96-run partnership with Akshay Wadkar to take the team through the quarterfinals stage. Atharva Taide had aggregated 270 runs from 7 matches and was the highest run-scorer for Vidarbha in SMAT 2021. His performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy might compel franchisees to bid for him in IPL 2022 Auction.

4. Tilak Verma (Hyderabad): Tilak Verma is one of the rising stars in Indian cricket. The 19-year-old broke into the limelight when he scored a brilliant century at the U-19 Asian Cup in 2019. In SMAT 2021, Tilak Verma had displayed some good performances, especially 75 off 50 balls against Gujarat in the quarterfinals. He had aggregated 215 runs, including two half-centuries, from 7 matches. In IPL Auction 2022, the franchises might look to bid for him and give him the opportunity to play in IPL next year.

5. Chama Milind (Hyderabad): Chama Milind had a great season and a year to remember as he was the leading wicket-taker of SMAT 2021. The 27-year-old left-arm pacer had scalped 18 wickets, including two 5-wicket hauls, from 7 matches. Chama Milind was part of two IPL franchises, Sunrisers Hyderabad (2014-15) and Delhi Daredevils (2017). However, the Hyderabad bowler was never picked up by any of the franchises since 2018. In IPL Auction 2022, Milind will hope to return to IPL after 4 years.

6. Akshay Karnewar (Vidarbha): Akshay Karnewar had grabbed headlines when he became the first T20 bowler to not concede a single run in four overs spell against Manipur. Against Sikkim, 29-year-old off-spinner took the first hat-trick. Karnewar was consistent with his performances by not conceding more runs, except against Karnataka in the semifinal. Akshay Karnewar is the highest wicket-taker for Vidarbha in SMAT 2021, scalping 13 wickets from 7 matches. In IPL Auction 2022, franchises might bid for him given his overall performance and his ability to bowl with either hand.

7. Darshan Nalkande (Vidarbha): Darshan Nalkande grabbed headlines with his brilliant 4 wickets in 4 balls against Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy semifinal. In the final over, Nalkande dismissed Aniruddha Joshi, BR Sharath, Jagadeesha Suchith, and Abhinav Manohar in four consecutive deliveries. His performance might have stood a strong chance of him getting picked by the franchises in IPL Auction 2022. Darshan Nalkande scalped 13 wickets from 7 matches in SMAT 2021

8. P Saravana Kumar (Tamil Nadu): P Saravana Kumar played a crucial role for Tamil Nadu in semifinal against Hyderabad by scalping a brilliant fifer and returning with 5/21 in 3.3 overs, including two maiden overs. His performance came at the right time ahead of IPL Auction 2022. It would be interesting to see whether Saravana Kumar will be picked by the franchises in the IPL auction next year or not.

9. CV Stephen (Andhra Pradesh): CV Stephen was the star bowler for Andhra Pradesh in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season. The 27-year-old scalped 14 wickets from 5 matches and also finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of SMAT 2021. In IPL Auction 2022, CV Stephen will hope to make his IPL debut next year if any of the franchises pick him up.

10. Rohan Kadam (Karnataka): Rohan Kadam was included in the Karnataka squad in the absence of Devdutt Padikkal for the knockout stage. The 27-year-old helped the team with good performances in pre-quarterfinals and quarterfinals. In the semifinal, Rohan Kadam played a match defining knock of 87 off 55 and also was part of a 132-run partnership with Manish Pandey against Vidarbha. Rohan might have been dismissed for a duck in the final, but he has been a crucial player for Karnataka till the semifinal. In the IPL Auction 2022, it would be interesting to see whether he will be picked by the franchises based on his knockout performances.
