IPL 2025: Where will Shreyas Iyer go if Kolkata Knight Riders don’t retain their captain?

A total of 3 teams. RCB, PBKS and DC would love to buy Shreyas Iyer from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction

As the IPL 2025 Retention day approaches, all the teams are busy finalizing their lists. However, there are reports that Kolkata Knight Riders might not retain their captain Shreyas Iyer. This in turn opens a plethora of opportunities for IPL franchise teams to cash in for Iyer in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Reports from the KKR side have emerged that the side won’t retain their IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer. And with a couple of other teams looking to choose a new captain, there are three possible sides that can take Iyer from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Which teams will target Shreyas Iyer?

Reports from Sangbad Pratidin claim that Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are poised to rope in the ace batter to become their new captain. After a disastrous season in IPL 2024, RCB is planning to select a new captain, and Iyer completely fits the bill.

On the other hand, Punjab Kings too are without a skipper. With Shikhar Dhawan retiring from the sport, there is a vacant spot for the captain in the side. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant’s position in Delhi Capitals is also uncertain. This can also open doors for Iyer to make a comeback to his former side, i.e. DC.

Who will KKR retain?

In an ideal scenario, Shreyas Iyer should be number 1 in KKR’s retention list. This means the ace batter would be the number 1 pick for a price of 18 crores. However, if rumors are believed to be true, then Iyer is not on the list.

The Caribbean duo of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine will be retained by the Kolkata outfits. On the other hand, ace finisher Rinku Singh will also be retained.

Lastly, both Ramandeep Singh and Harshit Rana are to be retained as the uncapped players. KKR will also look to use the Right to Match (RTM) option for either Venkatesh Iyer or Varun Chakravarthy in the IPL Mega Auction
