Rajasthan Royals have the best opening pair ahead of the IPL 2025 auction in the form of Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While rest of the franchises will be on the hunt for either an opening partner or fresh set of top-order batters, RR are pretty settled in the department and have made optimum use of the retentions. Sanju Samson has been in red-hot form in T20Is this year and his spectacular run from IPL 2024 has continued till the South Africa series. As for Jaiswal, he has now become a permanent opener for India. A first-choice opener across formats.
Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal – RR’s opening powerhouses
Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal have had a long association with RR and are no strangers to sharing the dressing room. Sanju Samson has played most of his career at RR in the middle-order rather than in the opening slot. However, things could change in IPL 2025 given how the Kerala batter has aced his role as openers in T20Is. Samson has scored back to back hundreds in T20Is, tasting success as he returned to the role of an opener after a significant period of time.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been retained by RR ahead of IPL 2025 auction. There was no doubt over his retention whatsoever, given that the southpaw is a RR find and a gem. With over 1500 runs to his name in IPL already, Jaiswal will make a destructive pair with Sanju Samson as the opener.

Prior to the retentions, Jos Buttler occupied the role of the opener for RR along with Jaiswal. However, with the England skipper being released, RR need to find a new partner for Jaiswal. And Sanju Samson has emerged as the ideal option, given his form recently. Samson has displayed his ability be calm yet destructive at the same time while also succeeding in playing till the end. If the combo of Buttler and Jaiswal wasn’t already enough, imagine what damage Samson could do at the top when he joins forces with the young southpaw.
