Mitchell Starc will go under the hammer once again in IPL 2025 auction, perhaps for the last time. The veteran Australian pacer is to date the league’s highest buy as KKR spent a whooping Rs 24.75 crore to bag the star in the mini-auction. However, he was released by the franchise after just one season. Starc is at the fag end of his career and probably has like a couple of more years before he will be out of the radar.
Starc needs a new team and it could be CSK
If there’s one team with which Mitchell Starc can stick to till the end of his career, it is Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The franchise is known to have deep respect for seniors of the game and have had many former Australian bowlers in their line up in the past. Besides, CSK have retained only pacer and that is Matheesha Pathirana. The side could benefit from spending on Starc in order to have an experienced overseas pacer in their squad.
Year | Mat | WKTS | Ave | Econ |
---|---|---|---|---|
Career | 41 | 51 | 22.29 | 8.21 |
2024 | 14 | 17 | 26.12 | 10.61 |
2015 | 13 | 20 | 14.55 | 6.76 |
2014 | 14 | 14 | 28.71 | 7.49 |
Mitchell Starc failed to justify his heavy price tag in IPL 2024. He managed to get only 17 wickets in the season, making an impact only on a couple of occasions towards the end. 34-year-old Starc has been an all-format player for Australia for a long time now. While he picked red-ball cricket over T20s before 2024, he chose to return to the IPL once again in order to prepare for the T20 World Cup. But he failed to deliver to the expectations of the fans.
This means CSK don’t have to break their bank if they want to get Mitchell Starc to their side. The five-time champions have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni ahead of IPL 2025 auction. CSK could very well be Starc’s ideal team to pen his final chapter in the IPL.
