IPL 2025: RR could be tempted to draft 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in XI after 42-ball 71 in VHT

IPL 2025: Vaibhav Suryavanshi has played four matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy so far, and scored 88 runs at an average of 22.

Ever since 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bough by RR at the recent IPL 2025 Auction, there has been a lot of buzz around the Bihar cricketer. After a spate of unimpressive outings, he finally came out good for his team on Tuesday, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored 71 from 42 deliveries, vs Baroda, albeit in a losing cause.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi in RR XI for IPL 2024?

Nonetheless, chasing 278, Vaibhav gave a rousing start to his team, smashing eight fours and four sixes in his innings, scoring at a strike-rate of 169, to become the youngest Indian batter to score a LIST A fifty. In fact, he gave a rousing start to Bihar, during the chase, as the team went on to score 40 runs in five overs only, against the Krunal Pandya-led side.

Such was his dominance, that when he got out for 71, the team score was at 100, in 12.5 overs. But thereafter, Bihar lost the momentum, and fell short by 36 runs. Now, this performance could well take him to a spot in the RR playing XI for the IPL 2025. While of course, there is no guarantee for the same, and he might just be too young to rub shoulders with international players in the league, Rajasthan Royals management might just be tempted to give him a game or two for sure.

Meanwhile, he was bagged for INR 1.10 Crore in the IPL Auction, and coach Rahul Dravid had spoken about selecting the youngster for the team. “I think he’s (Suryavanshi) got some really good skills, so we thought it might be a good environment for him to grow in. Vaibhav just came to our trials and we were really happy with what he saw,” said Dravid in an IPL video.
