Rohit Sharma may not take the field against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 13. The former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain had injured his left knee in the nets about 10 days ago and had missed the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) match because of it. He subsequently played against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and scored 17 runs, but it seems like his knee issue has resurfaced.
Is Rohit Sharma still injured?
On the eve of the DC vs MI match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Rohit was spotted with a knee strapping.
Rohit was seen indulging in conversations with three other senior players of the team, captain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. He also chatted with the medical staff to ascertain where his fitness was at the moment. He also received some treatment and massages before hitting the nets.
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene had talked about Rohit’s knee niggle before. He’d explained that the former MI captain was struggling to put any weight on his left knee, and that’s why he couldn’t play against LSG.
“Ro got a hit on his knee just in the IT (iliotibial) band, he tried to bat yesterday and couldn’t put any weight on it. Again, he came and did a fitness test early today to try, and it was discomfort for him to put weight on that so he felt it wasn’t 100% for him to play this game. That’s why we thought we will give him a few more days to try and get through that. Unfortunate what happened in the nets,” Jayawardene said after the LSG match.
One mustn’t forget that Rohit isn’t a spring chicken anymore. He’s 37 already. MI have also been using him as the impact substitute. Which means that he only comes out to bat and doesn’t field. This clearly shows they don’t think he’s fit enough to be on the field.
