Former Mumbai Indians player Pragyan Ojha has had his say on the Rohit Sharma-Mumbai Indians tale that has been going on ever since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The ex-India left-arm spinner, who has won two IPL titles with MI, feels Rohit should continue plying his trade with the franchise.
Ojha credits Rohit Sharma’s stature to Mumbai Indians
In an exclusive chat with Insidesport, Pragyan Ojha asserted his views on Rohit and MI. He declares that it won’t be easy for Mumbai Indians to let go Rohit – if the case arises. Ojha has played alongside Rohit at MI for four years and has won two titles under his best friend’s captaincy (in 2013 & 2015). The 38-year-old told Insidesport that Rohit should continue playing at the Mumbai franchise ahead of IPL 2025.
“As far as I know, he is a very integral part of Mumbai Indians. I don’t know if that will be that easy for them to let Rohit go and the other way around also. It will be very emotional for Rohit. But when you talk about IPL, talk about this format, and talk about auction, I think looking from a professional point of view, sometimes you get to decide, but sometimes it’s on the table. So, it’s very difficult. But I think it will be very emotional.,” said Ojha to Insidesport.
Ever since Mumbai Indians brought in Hardik Pandya and assigned him the leadership role, the talks of friction between MI and Rohit have been going around. Even a video surfaced on social media, where Rohit was seen having a chat with the-then KKR batting coach Abhishek Nayar. With a mega auction scheduled to occur in December, questions remain on whether Mumbai will retain Rohit or not.
“It won’t be easy if that happens. Personally, I would say that Rohit should continue to play for Mumbai Indians because of the contribution that he’s made. And he has grown as a captain, as a player. The stature that he is in today, is somewhere connected to Mumbai Indians. So I would say that if he stays there – well and good. But if he moves on, that’s how it is. Because this is a franchise tournament and sometimes these things happen.”
