Riyan Parag flattered to deceive in his second match as Rajasthan Royals captain, falling for a 15-ball 25 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Riyan Parag, leading the Royals for the first 3 games of IPL 2025, failed in a high-scoring game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday and three days later, he had the chance to stamp his authority in the side and revive memories of a ground-breaking 2024 season.
Early promise but inconsistent returns!
Riyan Parag‘s IPL journey story has been frustrating for those who firmly believe in his talents. After debuting in 2019, he scored just 2 half-centuries in 5 years before proving his mettle in 2024.
That breakthrough season prompted the RR management to name him captain with regular skipper Sanju Samson playing as an Impact Sub in the final stages of an injury recovery.
Riyan Parag would be disappointed with the two missed chances so far this year and he would be eager to make amends before handing back the reins to Samson.
RR’s stand-in captain came to this season on the back of 573 runs from 16 matches last summer and had the opportunity impress on his home ground. Parag started well and even hammered Varun Chakravarthy for a six in his first over before mistiming a delivery which moved away from the batter; Quinton de Kock, the KKR wicketkeeper completed a good catch to end Parag’s stay.
