IPL 2025: SRH set to retain Heinrich Klaasen at Rs 23 crore, Pat Cummins at Rs 18 crore

A maximum of six retentions can be made before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Of these six, a maximum of five (Indian or overseas) can be capped and a maximum of two uncapped.

In what has come as a huge breaking, the Sunriders Hyderabad (SRH) is set to splash out money for their IPL 2025 retentions. In fact, as per ESPNcricnfo, the Orange Army is likely to pick Heinrich Klaasen as their primary retention for a whopping Rs 23 crore. This is surprising given that most of the fans believed Pat Cummins to be the first retention pick for SRH. Regardless, as per reports, the Australian and SRH captain is likely to be retained at Rs 18 crore. Cummins will continue the role of captain from IPL 2025 as well.

Klaasen, Cummins & Abhishek – SRH retentions

As per ESPNcricinfo, Klaasen is the primary candidate to become the first retention pick. However, what’s more shocking is the fee of Rs 23 crore reported. If the development is right, it will be a huge boost for Klaasen, who otherwise got Rs 18 crore (the minimum cap set by BCCI for 1st retention picks). As for Cummins, who led the team to the IPL 2024, is probable to get a pay cut. He was roped in for a massive Rs 20.50 crore at the IPL 2024 auction but is likely to be retained at Rs 18 crore.

Moreover, Indian sensation Abhishek Sharma will be retained for as much as Rs 14 crore. The other two retention candidates, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Travis Head are also most probable to stay with the franchise. While their price cap is not yet revealed. IPL has established a deadline of October 31 for retentions.

At IPL 2024, Klaasen amassed 479 runs from 15 innings with a strike rate of 171.07, making him the third-highest scorer for the Sunrisers, after Head and Abhishek. Abhishek had the greatest scoring average among the top ten run scorers in the event the previous season, scoring 484 runs in 16 innings with a strike rate of 204.21. It was a breakout season for Abhishek, who is part of the current Indian T20I team as well.

Head, who hit 567 runs in 15 innings with a strike rate of 191.55, was fourth on the list of all run-getters. Head and Abhishek forged a daring partnership at the top of the order. The twenty-one-year-old seam-bowling all-rounder Reddy made his T20I series debut for India against Bangladesh when he smashed 74 off 34 in his second game.
